Welcome to September and the start of fall!
One cannot help but ask: where did summer go?!
On July 5, I joined GDABVI as its Chief Operating Officer. During the last several weeks, I have spent time getting to know our staff and some of our great clients who have come to the office; I look forward to meeting more of our clients. I also look forward to speaking with the Lions Club chapters who have invited me to spend some time with them. Everyone at GDABVI values our partners as we, among other things, seek to dispel the myths associated with vision impairments.

During September, my goal is to have a new staff person join us. This person will be our Development Director. Along with me, this person will lead our fundraising efforts so that we may continue to offer the programs and services to our clients; we also want to explore what new programs we may offer, especially as technology rapidly changes.
Lastly, I want to thank all the people who have warmly welcomed me to GDABVI, both internally and externally. I appreciate the kind wishes!

Bingo
Join GDABVI for bingo. Every 1st Friday of the month. Bring your bingo boards & let’s have some fun. Our next bingo day is September 1st at 11am. For more information or to RSVP for bingo and all activities call 313-591-3796.
New Direction Support Group
If you or someone you know could use the social support of others in varying stages of vision loss, consider joining the agency support group. It takes place every 2nd Tuesday of the month. join us on September 12th at noon. For more information call 313-591-3790.
Kitchen Safety Classes
Would you like to learn about accessible gadgets & receive tips for your kitchen. We have the following classes scheduled, September 5th kitchen safety class (10am-1:00pm), September 18th cooking matter class (1:00-2:300pm this class will be virtual) & September 26th small appliance class (10:00am-1:00pm. for more information call 313-591-3791.
GDBABVI Health Fair
Take part in GDABVI Health Fair. September 29th… 10am to 2pm. On site we will have a Wayne State Mobile Unit, KidSight Trailor & Flu Shot Clinic. There will be Adult Diabetic Retinopathy Screening, Dental Hygienist, Medicare, Medicaid Representative and so much more. For mor information call 313-272-3900.
